§ Mr. John Mooreasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what 398W is the current state of examination and experiment into the use of computerised teaching machines for primary and secondary schools, such as are widely in use in the United States of America and Scandinavia.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonThe five-year National Development Programme in Computer Assisted Learning, which was funded by the Department of Education and Science and which ended in December 1977, included a number of projects concerned with the use of computers as an aid to teaching and learning in schools and higher and further education. As my right hon. Friend said in a forward to the Programme Director's final report, a copy of which is in the Library, the United Kingdom has established itself as one of the world leaders in compueter assisted learning generally. The Council for Educational Technology is being allocated additional funds to assist in disseminating information and materials developed during the programme. In addition, the Schools Council has a continuing project for the development of teaching materials relating to uses of the computer in a number of subject areas.
