HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 c265W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is satisfied with the progress being made towards the establishment of safety committees and safety representatives on farms in the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Grant

I am informed by the chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977 apply to Great Britain and come into force on 1st October 1978. Their implementation is a matter for the trade unions in consultation with the employers.

Discussions on this subject are already taking place in many industries, and I hope they will soon begin in agriculture so that an effective contribution to farm safety is made.
