HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 cc221-2W
37. Sir David Renton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will name those constituencies in England and Wales which now have more than 90,000 electors, and draw the attention of the Parliamentary Boundary Commission to the need for a special review of their boundaries at the earliest possible date;

(2) in view of the fact that the Huntingdonshire constituency now has 93,000 electors spread over 370 square miles, whether he will ask the Boundary Commissioners to hold a special review.

Mr. John

Such constituencies on the 1977 register may be identified from table 3 of "Electoral Statistics 1977" published by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys. Figures for the 1978 register will be published in May or June in a monitor by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys.

The Parliamentary Boundary Commission for England commenced a general review of constituencies in 1976. Both the English Commission and the Commission for Wales are required to report on their general reviews between 1979 and 1984.
