§ Mr. Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many places currently exist for juveniles in youth treatment centres; and how many such centres are now in operation.
§ Mr. MoyleTwo youth treatment centres are now in operation. The St. Charles Centre at Brentwood, Essex opened in July 1971; the Glenthorne Centre at Erdington, Birmingham started to take young people on 28th February 1978.
The centres together provide 87 places for highly disturbed and disruptive young people, not necessarily delinquent, in need of long-term care and treatment in conditions of security.
