asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many human deaths in Scotland were attributed to infestation by the hydatid worm, echinococcus granulosus, in each of the last five years.

In the five years to 1977 no deaths were registered in Scotland as due to this cause.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many cases of infection with the hydatid worm, echinococcus granulosus, were diagnosed in humans in Scotland in each of the last five years.

This disease is not statutorily notifiable and the only figures available are those for cases treated in hospital. The number of such cases in each of the last five years for which figures are available were as follows.
