HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 c254W
Mr. Temple-Morris

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the figure for bus fuel grant subsiry for 1975–76, 1976–77 and 1977–78 to the bus industry; what is the amount paid to the National Bus Company; and why this figure no longer appears in the Government's expenditure White Paper, Cmnd. Paper No. 7049, Vol. II.

Mr. William Rodgers

I have been asked to reply.

The amounts are as follows:

£ millions
1975–76 1976–77 1977–78
(i) Bus operators in Great Britain 38.9 47.1 57.4
(ii) National Bus Company 13.7 17.0 20.9

The figures no longer appear in expenditure White Papers because bus fuel grant is now classified as a refund of tax which does not form part of public expenditure. Reference to the change was made in the White Paper Cmnd 6721, page 153, paragraph 2.
