Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the total cost of running the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Council, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, such as expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, maintenance, etc., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

The total cost of running the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, excluding the cost of the certification officer and the Central Arbitration Committee, is estimated to have been £7,184,000 during 1977–78. The estimate for 1978–79 is £9,360,000.
