HC Deb 02 May 1978 vol 949 c111W
43. Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further steps he will take to bring down the percentages of those unemployed in Scotland to similar levels pertaining in the rest of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

A major objective of our economic and industrial policies is the reduction of unemployment in Scotland, as in the rest of the United Kingdom. In the immediate future, the situation should benefit from the introduction of the new special programmes for unemployed young people and adults, and from the extension of the small firms employment subsidy to the whole of Scotland and to include firms with up to 200 employees.
