§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of infants born with congenital malformation resulting from rubella infection during pregnancy for each year from 1967 to 1977 inclusive.
§ Mr. Moyle, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 21st April 1978; Vol. 948, c. 390] gave the following information:
Information is not available in the form requested. Under the national congenital rubella surveillance programme, introduced in 1971, the number of cases reported in each year by consultant paediatricians and community physicians has been as follows (the figures for 1972 include a backlog of cases):
Period* 1972 134 1973 94 1974 72 1975 74 1976 66 1977 51 The calendar year of birth for the children in these reports was as follows:
1970 (or earlier) 156 1971 64 1972 80 1973 86 1974 45 1975 40 1976 19 1977 1 Some increase in numbers of cases from 1975 can be expected, owing to a time-lag in notifications.
* 12 months ending 30th June in each year.
