HC Deb 02 May 1978 vol 949 cc104-5W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether Her Majesty's Government support the European Commission's campaign to achieve closer convergence between the economies of the nine member countries of the EEC; and what steps he will take in support of that campaign.

Mr. Joel Barnett

I refer the hon. Member to what my right hon. Friend the Minister of State said on this subject in the debate in the House on 16th March.—[Official Report, 17th March, c. 785–815.] It is in our interests, as well as those of the Community, that we should work together to seek common answers to the serious economic problems facing us. I believe that the Commission's proposals should be considered in that context.

Mr. Rifkind

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to whom Commissioners of Inland Revenue or an authorised officer of the commissioners may at present disclose information of the type referred to by Clause 62 of the Finance Bill.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

I will let the hon. Member have a reply as soon as possible.
