HC Deb 23 March 1978 vol 946 c660W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs why, recently, there have been increases totalling 120 per cent. in the cost of obtaining a passport.

Mr. Tomlinson

An overall increase of 120 per cent. in the cost of a standard passport has taken place over a period of a little over seven years—November 1970 to March 1978. Successive increases have been necessary to match the rising costs over this period of the Passport Office in the United Kingdom and Consular Services overseas.
