asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can estimate the number of people who, in the last financial year, had assets of over El million; and how this figure compares with each of the past six years.

It is thought that there may be approximately 1,000 individuals in the United Kingdom with assets of over £1 million; but this does not take account of assets in certain trusts. The available information is not sufficiently accurate to provide separate estimates for individual years.
