HC Deb 23 March 1978 vol 946 c717W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would the level of child benefit be if an additional amount of £1 billion per year were devoted to this purpose.

Mr. Orme

If a further £1 billion a year were devoted to child benefit, after it has been increased to £2.30 a child next month, the weekly level of child benefit would be about £4. This assumes no further change in child tax allowances but allows for savings on other social security benefits.
