21. Mr. William Shelton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he is satisfied with the rate of progress in the current discussions under the Tokyo Round taking place in Switzerland; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Meacher

The main participants have now tabled their tariff offers, and intensive discussions are taking place on the issues raised by these offers and on various non-tariff issues.

I expect decisions of principle to be reached on the most important issues by July of this year.
