HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 c61W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether statistics are available for accidents to children on roads in which the use of skateboards has been a factor; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moyle

Although no national statistics on injuries arising from skateboard accidents are at present available, as from 1st February the Department of Prices and Consumer Protection's home accident surveillance system has been extended to cover all such accidents wherever they occur. Information should be available towards the end of the year. I am aware that skateboarding can lead to injuries and therefore wish to encourage all skateboard users to wear protective clothing and as far as possible keep to areas specifically designated for skateboarding away from roads and pavements.
