HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 cc72-3W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what research and other grants the Manpower Services Commission has given to each of the universities in the United Kingdom during the past year for the purpose of studying work, employment and related matters.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the following includes information on the grants given by the Commission, the Employment Service Agency and the Training Services Agency during the period March 1977 to February 1978.

Cardiff and (b) the Cardiff travel-to-work area for each of the last seven years and the number in each year which arose from the East Moors Steelworks.

Mr. Barry Jones

I have been asked to reply.

I regret information is not available in the form requested. However the Training Services Agency estimates that there are currently approximately 190 engineering apprenticeship places in the Cardiff travel-to-work area.

I am informed by the British Steel Corporation that the apprenticeship intake at the East Moors Steelworks during the last seven years was as follows:

1971 20
1972 21
1973 7
1974 7
1975 26
1976 20
1977 10
