HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 cc58-9W
Mr. Peter Morrison

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the number of National Health Service orthodontists in the Cheshire Area Health Authority; and what are their locations.

Mr. Moyle

Most general dental practitioners and community clinical dental officers undertake some orthodontic work for their patients, referring only more difficult cases to dentists who specialise in orthodontic work.

I understand that in the area of Cheshire Area Health Authority at the present time there are, in the hospital service, two consultants with supporting staff, one assistant dental surgeon and one clinical assistant providing orthodontic services at Chester Royal Infirmary, Halton District General Hospital, Macclesfield Hospital and Leighton Hospital. In the community dental service there are three part-time senior dental officers employed exclusively to undertake orthodontic treatment in clinics at Wilmslow, Warrington, Winsford, Nantwich, Northwich, Sandbach, Duncorn and Grappenhall. In the general dental service there are four practitioners restricting their practice to orthodontics in Alderley Edge, Burton in Wirral, Macclesfield and Wilmslow.
