HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 cc83-4W
Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether his Department has selected a replacement model for the BSA motor bicycle used by the Army; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Gilbert

The Army's BSA motor cycle filled two roles—road escort and general purpose. As a result of technical trials, the Meriden 750 cc police machine has been selected for escort duties and the Canadian produced Bombardier 250 cc Can-Am lightweight machine for general duties. Contracts have been placed with both firms.
