HC Deb 13 March 1978 vol 946 cc79-80W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will list in the Official Report any means-tested grants or benefits which test the income of a person or persons from whom the claimant has no legal right to demand financial support.

Mr. Oakes

The only educational grants and benefits which clearly fall within the terms of my hon. Friend's Question are mandatory awards to students and those postgraduate awards which are subject to parental or spouse's contributions. Discretionary awards made by local education authorities may be subject to such contributions; this depends on the type of award and policy of the individual authority.
