asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the average annual number of houses in Wales renovated with a grant or demolished as a slum (a) between the 1971 and the 1976 house condition surveys and (b) during 1977.

Information on improvement grants and demolitions up to 1976 are given in Tables 2.44 and 2.41 respectively, of the Digest of Welsh Statistics No. 23, 1977, a copy of which is in the Lirbary.

In 1977, 6,942 renovation grants were approved in Wales and 1,250 dwellings were demolished or closed.
