Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why the principles laid down by the Hardman Committee have not been followed in the proposal to concentrate Ministry of Defence computer services in Glasgow.

Dr. Gilbert

The decision to disperse some MOD work to Glasgow was taken by the Government in July 1974 on regional policy grounds and reaffirmed last year when Ministers agreed that the MOD could look if necessary to establishments outside the South East to fulfil the Glasgow commitment.

Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what will be the cost of the proposed move to concentrate Ministry of Defence computer services from nine English and one Scottish centre in Glasgow.
