asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether, in view of the imminent closure of the East Moors Steelworks by the British Steel Corporation and the resultant level of unemployment amongst steelworkers and those dependent on the steelworks, he is now prepared to designate Cardiff a special development area.

Mr. Cryer

We made Cardiff a development area on 14th August 1974.

There is no evidence that a further upgrading would be justified at present.
