§ Mr. Litterickasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his Department's estimate of the gross unearned income which would be required to produce a net income of £440,000 in one year for a married couple with two dependent children and no other taxable income.

Assuming the couple are under 65 years of age the gross income required in 1977–78 would be £21,618,000.
