§ Mr. Ovendenasked the Secretary of State for Employment which wages councils do not make provision in their regulations for the payment of any extra wages or extra time off where a Bank Holiday occurs on an employee's normal day off; and what action he is taking to remedy this situation.

- Retail Bread and Flour Confectionery Trade (E and W)
- Retail Bread and Flour Confectionery Trade (Scotland)
- Retail Drapery, Outfitting and Footwear Trades
- Retail Food Trades (E and W)

Wages councils are independent statutory bodies which make their own wages orders. I have no power to intervene.
