I dealt with this at length during the Supply Day debate on 27th February. The measures include the allocation of resources to support and strengthen the police service, and the prison system, to make possible further development of community service schemes run by the probation service and to enlarge the system of attendance centres for juvenile offenders; and the important improvements in the criminal law and powers of the courts embodied in the Criminal Law Act 1977.
