HC Deb 02 March 1978 vol 945 cc291-2W
Q7. Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

asked the Prime Minister whether he has had any further response from the Leader of the Opposition in his invitation to discuss immigration.

The Prime Minister

Following my proposal on 14th February that there should be talks between the leaders of the three parties, to see whether a national approach to immigration and race relations could be evolved, the right hon. Lady the Leader of the Opposition issued a statement to the Press declining my invitation, at any rate for the present. I have had no further response from the right hon. Lady on this matter.

Q31. Mr. Aitken

asked the Prime Minister what representations he has received concerning his offer to hold discussions with the leaders of political parties on a national approach to immigration policies.

The Prime Minister

The right hon. Gentleman the Leader of the Liberal Party has told me that he is willing to take part in such discussions; but the right hon. Lady the Leader of the Opposition has declined to do so, at any rate for the present.
