HC Deb 02 March 1978 vol 945 cc386-7W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make certain that persons seeking to give information regarding alleged abuses of social security benefits to his offices in Dundee are not told that no action will be taken regarding their allegations unless the informants give their own names and addresses.

Mr. Orme

The Department's policy, which was endorsed by the Fisher Committee (Cmnd. 5228, paragraph 498) is that all information which is specific enough to justify the use of an investigator's time should be followed up, whether given anonymously or not. I will look into any case in which the hon. Member has received a specific complaint, if he will let me have the details.
