§ Mr. George Rodgersasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if he will refer to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission and proposed merger of the Hastings and Thanet Building Society with the Anglia Building Society.
§ Mr. MaclennanMy right hon. Friend has decided, on the evidence before him, not to refer this merger to the Commission for investigation. The Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies has considered those aspects of the proposed merger that concern him and is satisfied that the amalgamation should be allowed to proceed.
