§ 38. Mr. Hugh Jenkinsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will follow the example of Canada and cease to base his policy on nuclear weapons.
§ Mr. JuddThe Canadian Prime Minister announced in his speech to the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament on 26th May that Canada was in process of replacing her nuclear capable aircraft in North America with conventionally armed aircraft. The United States-owned nuclear weapons system involved is obsolete, and its absence will make no significant difference to the overall balance of forces between East and West. Canada remains as committed as Britain to NATO's policy of deterrence, including nuclear weapons, on which the security of all the allies depends. Both Canada and Britain continue to contribute effective forces to the common deterrent including, in our case, our own nuclear forces.
