§ 33. Mr. Thompsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the total maritime zone claimed by the Gilbert Islands Government; and what proportion of this they would lose on the separation of Banaba as requested by the Banaban people.
§ Mr. JuddThe Gilbert Islands fishery zone established by the Governor's proclamation of 10th March 1978 encompasses some 307,000 square nautical miles. Of this area, approximately 70,000 557W square nautical miles may be considered to be dependent on basepoints on the island of Banaba.
