§ Miss Margaret JacksonThe average net cost to public funds in the first year of employment is estimated to be about £1,920, at 1978 survey prices, on the additional assumptions that the recruit is not a householder, receives no sick pay or other social security benefit during the year, and is single. No account has been taken of the costs to the education service of any extra overheads or long term commitments arising from the employment of additional teachers.
