§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will compare the total United Kingdom reserves of coal with those of plutonium and depleted uranium expressed in terms of coal equivalent, assuming the ultimate use of the fast reactor.
§ Mr. EadieTotal known resources of coal are put at about 190,000 million tonnes, of which up to perhaps 45,000 million tonnes may be technically recoverable. The present stock of depleted uranium, together with plutonium from thermal reactors, is equivalent to approximately 40,000 million tonnes of coal equivalent if used in fast reactors.
