§ Mr. MillanOn 1st April 1978, following the transfer to Scottish Office from the Property Services Agency of the Department of Environment of almost 600 staff engaged in ancient monuments work, there were 10,845 permanent civil servants employed in the Scottish Office Departments, including the Prison Service and the State Hospital, Carstairs, and 181 employed in the Royal Scottish Museum. In the other Departments for which I have responsibilities but which are not part of the Scottish Office a further 1,728 were employed at 1st April.
