asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the report of the development team for the Mentally Handicapped will be published.

Mr. Ennals

The report is published today. It records the activities of the development team since 1976 in response to over 70 invitations from health and local authorities for advice on the planning and development of their services for the mentally handicapped in line with Government policies. The report provides examples of the shortcomings and the good qualities of existing services and describes a number of ways in which the team suggest the principles of the 1971 White Paper "Better Services for Mentally Handicapped" can be put into practice.

Copies of the team's report have been placed in the Library of the House and are being sent to field authorities and community health councils. Copies are also on sale at Her Majesty's Stationery Office, price £1.50.
