§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is now ready to introduce legislation to seek to allow women who are the sole or major 707W breadwinners in their families to claim allowances for dependants in the contributory social security benefits; and, if he is still discussing this matter with the EEC, for how long he proposes to delay taking action in the United Kingdom pending agreement with them.
§ Mr. DeakinsAs I told my hon. Friend in my letter of 3rd March, I am sympathetic to the case she is putting. The Government have, however, no plans to legislate in advance of the EEC directive, discussions on which are to be resumed next month.
