§ Mr. Lawsonasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many workers are covered by settlements which have so far been monitored by his Department during stage three of the Government's pay policy; how many of these workers 558W settled outside the Government's pay guidelines, and what proportion of the total national work force is covered by settlements monitored by his Department.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerAs I have previously made clear, my Department maintains comprehensive monitoring only of major settlements, which cover about half the total labour force. Since 31st July, major settlements under the current pay policy have been reached covering over 7¼ million workers, the overwhelming majority within the policy.
