§ Mr. Patrick Jenkinasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what will be the consequences for the National Health Service of the increase in the national insurance surcharge announced by the Government on 8th June.
§ Mr. EnnalsThe implications of the increase in the national insurance surcharge on the National Health Service, particularly the Department of Health and Social Security Block 2 cash limit, are being examined. As to the National Health Service element of receipt from national insurance contributions, this is considered separately from general Government funds when plans are made for Health Service expenditure, and the546W increase in the surcharge will not therefore provide additional public expenditure for the National Health Service.
