HC Deb 07 June 1978 vol 951 c157W
Mr. Cronin

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1), in view of the fact that the fares charged by the Trent Motor Traction Company for bus journeys between Loughborough and villages within a few miles distance are over 90 per cent. of the fare between Loughborough and Nottingham, which is 15 miles away, if he will take appropriate steps to remedy this situation, when he has received his inspector's report;

(2) what his policy is with regard to comparability of bus fares between towns and nearby villages and between towns separated by much longer distances.

Mr. Horam

Bus fares are controlled by the traffic commissioners and my right hon. Friend cannot intervene in their decisions except in relation to an appeal. The Trent Motor Traction Company's fares are currently subject to appeal and we are awaiting the inspector's report. I cannot comment on a case which is sub judice, but I shall ensure that my hon. Friend is informed of my right hon. Friend's decision.
