Mr. Knox

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many hours overtime on Sundays have been worked in each of the past four years by employees of the Inland Revenue; and whether he anticipates any increase in the current year.

Mr Robert Sheldon,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 25th May 1978; Vol. 950, c. 742], gave the following information:

The total hours of overtime worked during weekends are:

1974–75 1.6 million hours
1975–76 1.1 million hours
1976–77 1.2 million hours
1977–78 1.5 million hours

Sundays are not separately recorded.

No significant increase is expected in the current year.
