§ Mr. John FraserAll mains-operated domestic electrical equipment sold or offered for sale in this country, including lamps, must comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1975 which include a provision relating to the emission of toxic gases.
48WMy Department has written to all known importers and United Kingdom manufacturers of liquid-filled lamps drawing their attention to these regulations and to the need for the lamps to bear advice on safe usage and the precautions to be taken in the event of breakage. I do not consider that any further action is called for at present, but the safety of these lamps will be kept under review.
