HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc142-3W
Mr. Bradford

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he will announce plans for a new youth centre for the Suffolk Estate in South Belfast.

Mr. Mason

There are no such plans at present but I understand that the long-term provision of a purpose-built centre is being reviewed by the Belfast Education and Library Board. Meanwhile Government funds have been committed for the improvement of temporary premises at Suffolk primary school in which the community association operates a youth club.

Mr. Bradford

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he will announce plans for a new community centre for the Suffolk Estate in South Belfast.

Mr. Mason

Responsibility for the provision of community facilities rests with the city council, and I understand that the Community Services Department is processing a recent formal application from the Suffolk community association. It is for the council to decide whether a centre is needed, and if so when it should be provided.
