§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to ensure that probation hostel facilities are available in the county of Northumberland.
§ Dr. SummerskillThe demand for probation hostel places from courts in Northumberland is unlikely to be sufficient to justify the provision of a hostel in the county. Places are available to Northumberland courts in probation hostels in Newcastle upon Tyne and Carlisle and additional facilities specifically for very inadequate offenders will shortly become available in Durham. A number of hostels somewhat further afield can also provide places for offenders from Northumberland if necessary.
