Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what were the gross and net average monthly mortgage repayments to a building society for loans of: (a) £5,000, (b) £10,000 and (c) £15,000 in January 1974 and in July 1977, respectively.

Monthly repayments on a new building society repayment mortgage with a 25-year term taken out on each of these dates, and in July 1978, are as follows:

  • Electrical Assistant (2 grades)—£57.96 or £59.11
  • Fire Patrolman—£57.96
  • Gardener (4 grades)—£57.96 to £61.41

The following grades are members of the Royal Household and are not industrial civil servants:

  • Kitchenmaid
  • Butler
  • Chauffeur

Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the number of industrial civil servants employed at each of the Royal palaces, sub-dividing them into craft and non-craft categories, and showing the basic weekly pay in each case.
