HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc180-2W
Mr. Michael Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimated cost of converting the M5 south of Birmingham into a six-lane motorway.

Mr. Horam

My right hon. Friend's proposals for widening of the M5 between Quinton and Lydiate Ash were set out in appendix C of the White Paper "Policy for Roads England 1978" (Command 7132). Tenders for the widening have been invited. The cost of widening the remainder of the two-lane section to the M50 interchange at Strensham could be about £20 million—at current prices.
