§ The Prime MinisterAs the White Paper "Winning the Battle Against Inflation" (Cmnd. 7293) makes clear, inflation erodes our international competitiveness, and thus leads to loss of jobs. Inflation cannot be controlled unless the rate of increase of earnings is moderate.
