HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc61-2W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether or not she has any plans to integrate independent schools for handicapped children into the State sector schools; and if she will make a statement.

Miss Margaret Jackson

The use of independent schools for the education of handicapped pupils is the subject of a number of recommendations by the Warnock Committee on which my Department and the Welsh Office, together with other interested departments, are about to undertake extensive consultations. The Government intend to await the outcome of the consultations before reaching decisions.
