HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc113-4W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what extra steps he will take to assist first-time home buyers in the Principality.

Mr. Alec Jones

I refer the hon. Member to the Home Purchase Assistance and Housing Corporation Guarantee Act 1978 which received the Royal Assent on 30th June 1978.

Under this Act first-time purchasers of homes anywhere in Great Britain can qualify for loan of £600, interest free for five years, added to the normal mortgage advance, and a cash bonus up to a maximum of £110. It is expected that two-thirds of first-time purchasers in Wales will qualify for assistance.
