HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 c177W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in order to avoid confusion and in the light of concern expressed by the police, he will institute a publicity campaign to inform motorists that under the Road Traffic Acts they must stop when requested to do so by the police.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Highway Code reminds drivers and cyclists that under section 159 of the Road Traffic Act 1972 they must stop when required to do so by a police officer in uniform. I do not think a separate publicity campaign is needed.
