HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 c180W
Mr. Michael Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what are his plans for traffic management schemes on the A435 and the A46 as a result of the diversions from the M5 proposed for the autumn of 1978.

Mr. Horam

I have no plans for any traffic management schemes on these roads as a result of work on the M5 motorway. Neither the A435 nor the A46 is planned as a diversion route for traffic from the M5 during the reconstruction works starting this autumn, and they will not be so signed.

Mr. Michael Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimate of the increased flow on the A435 and the A46 as a result of the diversions from the M5 proposed for the autumn of 1978.

Mr. Horam

It is impracticable to estimate the increase on the A435 and A46, which are not being signed as diversion routes. Some traffic may divert to them but this is not expected to affect existing traffic conditions significantly.
