HC Deb 27 July 1978 vol 954 c863W
37. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what talks he has had with his EEC fellow Ministers regarding (a) redundancy payments for fishermen over 50 years who voluntarily leave the industry and (b) compensation for fishing vessels scrapped or taken out of service while fish stocks recover.

Mr. Bishop

Action on these lines is included in the Commission's proposals for measures which might be taken in connection with the restructuring of Community fleets following the changes in fishing opportunities which have come about in recent years. The proposals have been discussed at technical level which has revealed wide areas of disagreement. They have not yet been discussed by the Council of Ministers.
